PyCascades Speaker Information Package
PyCascades is days away! We want to share some details with you that should help you prepare for the conference and know what to expect on the day of your talk.
Technical Details
The projector that we’ll provide is a Panasonic PT-DW6300 with a native resolution of 1280x800. Make sure your slides have an aspect ratio of 16:10 so nothing is getting cut off.
We’d like to remind you that we have some visually impaired members in our community that we don’t want to exclude from appreciating your talk. Make sure that you use high contrast in your slides and a large font.
You will present using your own laptop. We have various HDMI Adapters available. If you can connect to VGA, USB-C, MiniDisplay, we’ve got you covered. Do you need anything else? Let us know. You can also bring your own adapter. We also recommend bringing your power adapter.
Do you have any special requirements for your talk? Audio output? Any special equipment? Please let us know as soon as possible so we can prepare for it.
Additional suggestions:
- Ensure your presentation conforms with our Code of Conduct
- Spellcheck your presentation :)
- Many people have problems with seeing low contrast. Please also try to consider colourblind people when picking colors
- Consider using a slide lint tool, such as http://slidelint.net/
- Join us on our #speakersupport Slack channel
- Read our Welcome Wagon
What to expect on the day of
Our venue has a Green Room that’s available for all the speakers, at all times during the two days of the conference. You get access via the lobby to the right of the main doors. We’ll have a volunteer there that will assist with anything that you might need.
Please make sure that you check in at the Green Room at least 15 minutes before your talk so we don’t have to start worrying about you. Access to the stage will be directly from the green room. We have a quiet room adjacent to the green room that you can use to get mentally prepared, meditate or just relax.
Check the schedule to find our when you'll be speaking. If you need to make any changes to your talk title, description, photo, bio, please email the info to mariatta@pycascades.com.
Your talk will be recorded. If you do not wish to be recorded, please let us know. All recorded talks will be available in the PyCascades YouTube channel after the conference.
We are there for you!
Remember that we are here to support you. We know that being a speaker can be stressful. If there’s anything we can do to support you, reduce your stress or give you confidence. Let us know!
The core organizers and their contact info are all listed here. We will all be around the conference wearing purple PyCascades t-shirts.
All of us at PyCascades are super excited to have you speak and can’t wait to see you there.
